NGM will have the unique opportunity of being able to take advantage of solar, wind and water energy sources. This enables NGM's structures to make use of newly developed energy savings and micro-renewable energy technology that result in reduced costs of living, reduced carbon emissions and excellent Eco-homes ratings. These systems were developed for NGM by the New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) who are funded by the Carbon Trust. An initial study by NaREC suggests that using available technologies dependent on the location it is possible to reduce the dwellings' carbon emissions by up to 75%.

The use of timber in the construction of homes has a well-documented positive environmental effect. It has, for instance, lower embodied energy than concrete or steel and it is very sustainable. Today's timber is harvested from regulated and renewable sources where in Europe more trees are planted each year than cut down.

Concrete platforms have an estimated lifetime of 450 years and have no detrimental effect on the quality or the bio-diversity of the water.

The concrete platforms are thought of as environmentally friendly, as neither polystyrene nor concrete emit pollutants.  Moreover, they are also come with a simple maintenance regime, which, together with modern construction and supply chain management, make NGM’s development’s environmental impact unique compared to other developers.
